Data sources
Business listings
Names, phones, websites and addresses come from Overture Maps Foundation places data, which includes data from Meta, Microsoft, Foursquare and others under the CDLA-Permissive-2.0, Apache-2.0 and CC0 licenses. How we cross-check phones and websites
Open map data sometimes has the wrong website or an old number, so we check every listing ourselves. We visit each pro's website (the home page, and the contact page when the number isn't on it) and look for their phone number or name. We compare each phone number with the one on their state license and the ones on their website. A link to a social page is shown with that name, not as a website. A website that doesn't load twice, is parked or for sale, or is about something else entirely is taken off the listing. Every listing is checked again each month.
Our checker identifies itself as FindAProLinkCheck, follows robots.txt and reads only those two pages. Own a site and want it left out? Block FindAProLinkCheck in robots.txt.
Licenses and registrations
- Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation: A/C and electrical contractor license files.
- Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners: responsible master plumber list.
- Texas Department of Agriculture: structural pest control business licenses.
- Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (data.texas.gov): active franchise taxpayers and sales tax permit holders.
These are public records. We check them on each agency's schedule; if a record changes, the listing changes with it.
What we don't use
We don't copy reviews, ratings or listings from Google, Yelp, Facebook, Angi or Thumbtack. Scores come only from what customers tell us here and from ServicePros Hub records that pros choose to share.
